Suspect in attack on ROTA lieutenant killed by Military Police in São Paulo

A man identified as a suspect in the attack on lieutenant Ronickson Pimentel dos Santos died in a confrontation with ROTA officers on Wednesday morning (1st) in eastern São Paulo.

According to the Military Police, officers received a tip about the man’s possible indirect involvement in the crime against the 39-year-old officer, who was shot in the head in São Caetano do Sul on Saturday (27/6). During the approach in Jardim Guaianases, the suspect resisted and exchanged gunfire with the officers, was shot and taken to hospital but did not survive his injuries.

The force stated that his possible participation in the attack will still be investigated by the Civil Police. Two other men, aged 40 and 52, have already been arrested on suspicion of providing logistical support to the shooters, who remain at large.

Lieutenant Ronickson Pimentel dos Santos, brother of Eloá Pimentel murdered in 2008, remains in the ICU at Hospital Estadual Mário Covas in Santo André, showing signs of improvement after sedation was reduced and neurological treatment continued.
