British showjumper Tim Gredley shared his thoughts on the sport's challenges and opportunities during episode 176 of the Horse & Hound podcast. The 40-year-old rider, who has competed at world and European championships, highlighted issues facing British riders and proposed solutions to retain talent at home.
Gredley noted the growing complexity in showjumping, with numerous leagues and series now competing for attention. He recalled a simpler era focused on World Cups and Nations Cups, saying he still targets the latter as key events. Nationally, he expressed concern over riders leaving the UK for better opportunities abroad, urging British Showjumping leadership to develop incentives to keep talent domestic. He warned that relying on top names like Ben Maher, Scott Brash and Harry Charles is unsustainable long term.
