Tinworks Brewery closes after Tinhouse building sale

The owner of Tinworks Brewery in Llanelli has announced the permanent closure of the brewery and its Tinhouse bar following the sale of the venue. The decision comes amid ongoing pressures in the hospitality sector, marking another loss for the local food and drink scene. While the owner expresses hope for a future return, the current business climate poses significant challenges.

In a poignant social media post dated February 28, 2026, the owner of Tinworks Brewery shared the completion of the Tinhouse building sale, leading to the end of operations for both the brewery and the attached bar. 'Well… this is the day I’ve been dreading,' the post stated. 'We’ve officially completed on the sale of the Tinhouse. That means Tinworks Brewery and the Tinhouse bar are no more. Without our own venue, Tinworks simply isn’t a viable business. Writing that is incredibly hard after everything we’ve built over the last 10 years.'

This closure builds on an earlier February announcement about shutting the Llanelli taproom, driven by mounting challenges in the hospitality industry. Over the past decade, the business had thrived with community support, hosting events and serving customers who became like family. The owner extended gratitude in the post: 'To you — our customers, regulars, friends and supporters — thank you. Because of you, I got to live out my dream for a decade. Every pint poured, every event, every conversation across the bar meant more than you’ll ever know. I’ll be eternally grateful for the support you showed Tinworks from day one.'

Looking ahead, the owner remains optimistic but realistic. 'I truly hope this isn’t the end forever. I’d love to see Tinworks return one day. It may take time, and it will need the right support for small independent businesses which isn’t there at the moment — but if that day comes, we’ll be ready to brew some amazing beers once again.'

The shutdown adds to difficulties in Llanelli’s food and drink landscape, following recent closures of The Bryngwyn and Ali Raj restaurants, as well as the local Pizza Hut. Despite Welsh Government initiatives, such as 15% business rates relief for hospitality venues, groups like CAMRA have cautioned that these measures might fall short in averting further closures.
