Tobias Winberg activates clause to leave JYP for abroad

Swedish defenseman Tobias Winberg has exercised an overseas option in his contract with JYP, the Finnish club announced. The 27-year-old will play abroad next season after spending one year in Finland's top league. JYP confirmed the departure on its website.

Tobias Winberg, a national team-experienced defenseman, joined JYP last season following Modo's relegation from Sweden's SHL. In 53 games with JYP this season, he recorded 17 points, including two goals and 15 assists. The club stated, “27-årige Tobias Winberg har beslutat att utnyttja sin utlandsoption i sitt kontrakt och kommer att spela utomlands nästa säsong.” This marks the end of his stint in Finland after just one year. Prior to JYP, Winberg played for Modo in the SHL, where he notched one goal and eight assists over 51 matches. His performance dipped in the qualifiers against HV71 the previous spring, with one goal and a minus-7 plus/minus rating. Winberg's move abroad opens a new chapter, though his next destination remains undisclosed. JYP's announcement highlights the mobility in player contracts across European leagues.
