Travis McIntyre received a prison term of five to 15 years after pleading guilty to killing a man who pushed his pregnant wife to safety in Springville, Utah.
McIntyre was driving a Chevrolet Silverado while more than six times over the legal alcohol limit when he left the roadway and struck Matthew Daines on a sidewalk near 40 East 400 South in September 2025.
Daines, 26, saw the vehicle approaching and pushed his wife Andrea out of its path. She survived unharmed. Daines died from his injuries after officers and paramedics attempted lifesaving measures.
McIntyre pleaded guilty in May to automobile homicide while driving under the influence. At sentencing this week, 4th District Court Judge Denise Porter told him there was no way to undo the harm.
"There is a room full of people sitting behind you from at least two different extended families that you have destroyed," Porter said. McIntyre apologized in court, stating he was "a long ways from even forgiving myself."
