Viagra Boys announce debut album Street Worms

Swedish post-punk band Viagra Boys have revealed details of their debut album, Street Worms, set for release on September 28 via YEAR0001. The announcement coincides with the premiere of a music video for their single 'Sports,' which satirizes sports enthusiasm from an outsider's perspective. Lead singer Sebastian Murphy features prominently in the video's chaotic tennis court setting.

The Stockholm-based group, known for their irreverent name and style, is gearing up for their first full-length record. Street Worms was produced by Daniel Fagerström, associated with bands like Skull Defekts and Chronic Heist, and Pelle Gunnerfeldt, who has worked with Fireside and The Hives. The album includes quirky track titles such as 'Frogstrap' and 'Amphetanarchy,' alongside the lead single 'Sports.'

'Sports' captures the bewilderment of someone uninterested in athletics, with lyrics like 'Baseball, basketball, weiner dog, short shorts' recited by Murphy. The chorus simply repeats 'Sports,' evoking a mocking take on team chants and hyper-masculine bravado. This track joins earlier releases from the year, including 'Jungle Man' and 'Beijing Taxi.'

The music video for 'Sports,' unveiled on a recent Monday, shows Murphy shirtless and disruptive on a tennis court. As a match unfolds, he shouts into a microphone, wanders into players' space, and even takes the umpire's chair momentarily—though he avoids playing and gets struck by a ball. The players largely ignore him, highlighting the video's absurd humor. On Instagram, the band quipped that 'talent is subjective.'

Fans can preorder Street Worms, which features the following tracklist: 1. Down In The Basement, 2. Slow Learner, 3. Sports, 4. Best In Show, 5. Just Like You, 6. Shrimp Shack, 7. Frogstrap, 8. Worms, 9. Amphetanarchy. This release marks a significant step for the post-punk outfit, blending satire with energetic soundscapes.
