Viktor Hovland has committed to a new Ping G440 LST driver after months of testing. The change, which includes a specific shaft, followed his victory at the Travelers Championship.
Hovland began testing the Ping G440 LST head in the fall of 2024. Initial trials showed gains in speed and forgiveness but produced higher launch and spin than desired.
A switch to the Fujikura Ventus TR Black Velo+ shaft resolved the issues during sessions at the Truist Championship. The combination delivered improved ball speed and tighter dispersion.
The final setup features a 9-degree Ping G440 LST head adjusted to 7.6 degrees with forward weighting. It produces 178 mph ball speed, 10 degrees of launch and 2,500 rpm of spin.
Hovland used the club at the RBC Canadian Open after leaving his previous G425 LST behind. Results at recent events confirmed the equipment suited his needs.
