The American League defeated the National League 6-1 on Sunday in the 27th MLB All-Star Futures Game at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia. Rays catching prospect Nathan Flewelling earned MVP honors with the game's only home run.
The AL squad, managed by Larry Bowa, took the lead in the first inning when Athletics shortstop Leo De Vries singled, stole second and third, and scored on a groundout. The NL tied the score in the third before the AL regained the advantage in the fifth on a run scored by Angels outfielder Nelson Rada.
Flewelling delivered the decisive blow in the sixth inning with a two-run homer off Nationals right-hander Wen-Hui Pan. The 19-year-old Rays prospect, selected in the third round of the 2024 draft, finished the day as the game's standout performer.
Toronto shortstop JoJo Parker added an RBI double in the seventh to help seal the victory. Mariners left-hander Kade Anderson started for the AL and worked a scoreless first inning, while Pirates right-hander Seth Hernandez struck out two in a perfect frame for the NL.
The win marked the AL's first Futures Game victory since 2022. Twenty-five players from last year's contest have already reached the major leagues this season.
