Corbin Carroll sidelined by hip flexor tightness vs. Mets

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Corbin Carroll missed Thursday night's game against the New York Mets due to tightness in his left hip flexor. The issue arose while he legged out a triple during Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Mets. Manager Torey Lovullo said the team views it as minimal concern.

Carroll felt discomfort rounding second base on a triple in the seventh inning of Wednesday's victory at New York. He completed the game but noticed it tightening afterward. Playing his 500th major league game amid wind chills in the 30s, Carroll also recorded two doubles, fueling Arizona's offense that has scored 45 runs this season, with him accounting for nine scored and 11 driven in. He entered Thursday slashing .333/.408/.690 at the plate despite missing much of spring training with a broken hamate bone. Lovullo explained, 'Standing out there in the cold, he had two doubles and a triple, he's running around like a madman, and it just got tight. So instead of throwing him back out there and asking his body to do something that might cause some more damage, we decided to get him off of his feet.' No imaging is planned for the hip flexor. 'Very minimal [concern],' Lovullo added. He emphasized not wanting over-reliance on Carroll, noting about 40 percent of the team's runs involve him but expecting others to step up.
