La Direction des enquêtes criminelles (DCI) a lancé une enquête approfondie sur le décès de la musicienne gospel Rachel Wandeto. Elle a été agressée le 16 mai à Mwiki et a succombé à ses blessures deux jours plus tard au Kenyatta National Hospital. Son soutien au président William Ruto a été évoqué comme mobile potentiel.

La Direction des homicides de la Direction des enquêtes criminelles a repris l'affaire le 19 mai. Les agents travaillent à l'identification des trois hommes qui ont attaqué Wandeto avec une substance inflammable le long de la 11th Street, près d'Obama Road.

Wandeto a été transportée d'urgence au Kenyatta National Hospital avec des brûlures couvrant 75 % de son corps. Elle est décédée le 18 mai alors qu'elle recevait des soins.

Le président William Ruto a condamné l'attaque. Il a déclaré que les criminels seraient tenus pour responsables, indépendamment de leur affiliation.
