La Direction des enquêtes criminelles (DCI) a confirmé mardi soir l'arrestation d'Evans Kawala. Des personnalités de l'opposition avaient auparavant allégué qu'il avait été enlevé.

Des détectives de l'unité de soutien aux opérations ont appréhendé l'homme de 33 ans dans un centre commercial à Kayole, Nairobi. La DCI a indiqué que Kawala fait face à des accusations d'avoir tenu des propos publics incendiaires visant le président William Ruto, lesquels ont circulé en ligne.

Le gouverneur du comté de Siaya, James Orengo, avait déclaré mardi que l'administration Ruto avait enlevé Kawala pour avoir dit la vérité au pouvoir et a exigé sa libération immédiate. La déclaration de la DCI a rejeté les allégations d'enlèvement.

Kawala demeure en détention dans l'attente de sa comparution. Ses remarques faisaient suite à une faille de sécurité impliquant le président Ruto à Ganze, dans le comté de Kilifi, dimanche dernier.
