Eklund traded to Ottawa Senators reuniting with Zetterlund

William Eklund has been traded from the San Jose Sharks to the Ottawa Senators, setting up a reunion with his close friend Fabian Zetterlund.

The move came as a surprise to Zetterlund, who said he initially thought the news was a joke when Eklund called him.

"He called me and said we were going to play on the same team again. I did not believe him and thought he was joking," Zetterlund told the Senators website. "Then he explained that it was for real."

Zetterlund had left the Sharks during the 2024/25 season, while Eklund spent three full seasons with the organization. The pair became close during their time together in San Jose.

Zetterlund said he looks forward to showing Eklund around Ottawa as they prepare to play on the same team once more.
