Elderly care home in Uppsala prepares for heatwave

High temperatures are expected in Uppsala over the weekend. Elderly care services have raised preparedness at homes such as Hasselparken.

Very high temperatures are expected in Uppsala in the coming days. SMHI has issued an orange warning and temperatures above 30 degrees are forecast.

At Hasselparken care home, staff have begun planning according to a continuity plan. Residents are offered extra drinks, watermelon, ice cream and umbrella drinks to increase fluid intake.

– We have bought melons and we make “umbrella drinks”. We have noticed that residents drink more if we make it a bit festive, says Bodil Malmberg, operations manager at Hasselparken.

One resident, Jill Näslund, 76, is looking forward to the heat. – I love the heat, she says.
