Des familles demandent l'intervention de l'État pour huit Kenyans détenus en Libye

Huit travailleurs kenyans restent détenus à Benghazi, en Libye, plus de six semaines après leur arrestation le 21 mars. Leurs familles appellent à une aide urgente du gouvernement pour obtenir leur libération.

Les hommes ont été arrêtés après avoir réclamé des salaires impayés pour deux à trois mois de travail. Monica Wanjiru, une Kenyane résidant en Libye, a expliqué que la barrière de la langue entre les travailleurs et leurs employeurs ainsi que les forces de sécurité arabophones a conduit à un malentendu. La police aurait frappé et placé le groupe en détention dans un centre à Benghazi. Les détenus, identifiés sous les noms de John Okutoi, Victor Gathua, Paul Njehia, Kenneth Wanjehia, Kevin Riguini, Juma Njira, James Opiyo et Collins Koech, font désormais face à des accusations d'agression devant un tribunal. Les travailleurs sont arrivés en Libye en décembre 2025 par le biais d'agences basées au Kenya, en Ouganda et à Dubaï. Les familles ont critiqué ces agences pour avoir perçu des frais importants sans fournir aucun soutien, et demandent au gouvernement kenyan d'intervenir, soulignant l'absence d'ambassade du Kenya en Libye.
