Une mère de Floride cherche à faire annuler ses aveux dans une affaire de noyade survenue en 2020

Patricia Ripley, âgée de 51 ans, est accusée notamment de meurtre au premier degré pour la noyade de son fils Alejandro, âgé de 9 ans, dans un canal de Miami. Ses avocats soutiennent que la police a eu recours à des tactiques coercitives, incluant des appels à la religion, pour obtenir ses aveux.

L'incident s'est produit le 21 mai 2020, lorsqu'une caméra de surveillance aurait filmé Mme Ripley en train de pousser son fils autiste et non verbal dans le canal au sud-ouest de Miami-Dade. Des passants ont extrait l'enfant de l'eau, mais il n'a pas survécu. Selon un affidavit d'arrestation, Mme Ripley avait initialement affirmé aux policiers qu'un voleur armé lui avait enlevé son fils après un accident de voiture.
