L’islamologue François Burgat condamné en appel pour apologie du terrorisme

François Burgat, 78 ans, a été condamné le 27 mai par la cour d’appel d’Aix-en-Provence à une amende et au versement de dommages et intérêts. Relaxé en première instance, l’ancien directeur de recherches au CNRS a formé un pourvoi en cassation.

L’universitaire était poursuivi pour des propos tenus ou repostés sur son compte X en 2024, dont le partage d’un communiqué du Hamas saluant « l’opération bénie Déluge al-Aqsa ».

En première instance, il avait été relaxé le 24 avril 2025 du délit d’apologie publique d’actes de terrorisme. La cour d’appel a infirmé cette décision le 27 mai.

La défense a formé un pourvoi en cassation, ce qui laisse l’affaire encore ouverte. Burgat est ancien directeur de l’Institut français du Proche-Orient.
