Gemma Stevens retire Chilli King des Badminton Horse Trials

Gemma Stevens a retiré son cheval Chilli King des Mars Badminton Horse Trials juste avant la première inspection vétérinaire. Elle ne concourra qu'avec Chilli Knight cette semaine. Plusieurs autres cavaliers se sont également désistés dans les jours précédant l'événement.

Gemma Stevens a annoncé le retrait de Chilli King, âgé de 11 ans, le 6 mai. Le cheval, qui devait faire ses débuts au niveau cinq étoiles, ne semblait pas dans son état habituel lors d'une séance matinale, ce qui a motivé cette décision malgré l'absence de blessure grave. Stevens a déclaré être très déçue, mais ne pas vouloir prendre de risques avec le cheval à un niveau aussi exigeant. Elle prévoit désormais de le préparer pour le concours de Burghley plus tard dans l'année.

Two more competitors have pulled out of the Mars Badminton Horse Trials ahead of the cross-country phase.

The Queen is scheduled to visit the Mars Badminton Horse Trials on Friday, May 8, in her role as patron of the Ebony Horse Club. The charity, selected as the event's chosen cause this year, operates a community stables in Brixton, London. Her visit coincides with the second day of dressage competition.

Holly Jessett, a primary school teacher from Northamptonshire, took first place in the BE90 championship at the Badminton Horse Trials on 6 May. Riding her 13-year-old horse Lombard Lad, she finished ahead of 94 other starters after a clear round in showjumping. The result marked her first win in the class after a third-place finish in 2023.

The first trot-up at the CCI5* Longines Luhmühlen Horse Trials took place in Germany on 17 June, with all 21 remaining horses accepted by the ground jury. The field has been reduced by several late withdrawals ahead of the five-star event.
