A man in his mid-30s was shot in the leg by police in a residential area in Svalöv on Tuesday evening. He had chased several people with a sharp object before attacking the officers.
Police were called to the area shortly after 9 p.m. on Tuesday evening. The man had, according to witnesses, entered gardens and threatened people with a knife, axe or other edged weapon. When he moved toward the officers with the object raised, one police officer shot him in the leg.
The man was taken by ambulance to hospital but is reported to have no life-threatening injuries. He has been arrested and a report of gross threat against an official has been filed. Police have not yet clarified what other crimes he may be suspected of.
The incident will be investigated by the police department for special investigations because live fire was used. Press spokesperson Leif Fransson described the situation as chaotic with many witnesses present.
