Marlins acquire infielder Leo Jiménez from Blue Jays

The Miami Marlins have traded for infielder Leo Jiménez from the Toronto Blue Jays, receiving him in exchange for minor league third baseman Dub Gleed and $250,000 in international bonus pool money. Jiménez, a 24-year-old out of minor league options, was designated for assignment by Toronto earlier this week. The move addresses Miami's recent injuries to several position players.

Toronto designated the 24-year-old Jiménez for assignment earlier this week after he posted a .635 OPS with five home runs over 81 games in parts of the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Once ranked as the Blue Jays' No. 5 prospect by MLB Pipeline ahead of 2024, Jiménez now joins a Marlins team dealing with injuries to players including Kyle Stowers, Christopher Morel, Maximo Acosta, and Esteury Ruiz, creating a need for a short-term infield option. Miami's 40-man roster is full, requiring a corresponding roster move to accommodate him. The Blue Jays receive 23-year-old infielder Dub Gleed, a ninth-round pick in the 2024 draft out of UC Irvine. In his first minor league season, Gleed recorded a .738 OPS and two home runs across 71 games at four levels.
