San Diego Padres' Song Sung-mun made his major league debut as a pinch runner in the second game of the Mexico City Series. He entered in the top of the eighth but the Padres lost 12-7 to the Arizona Diamondbacks. The former KBO All-Star was called up as the 27th player after recovering from an oblique strain.
Song Sung-mun entered as a pinch runner for Luis Campusano at second base with two outs in the top of the eighth inning against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Estadio Alfredo Harp Helu in Mexico City on Sunday local time. The Padres trailed 8-7, with Song representing the tying run after Campusano reached on an error by shortstop Jose Fernandez. A wild pitch by Juan Morillo advanced Song to third, but Jake Cronenworth grounded out to first.
The Diamondbacks then scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure a 12-7 victory. Song, a former KBO All-Star with the Kiwoom Heroes, signed a four-year contract with the Padres in December 2025. He started the season on the injured list due to an oblique strain, rehabbed in Triple-A El Paso, and was called up as the extra 27th player ahead of Saturday's series opener.
Song became the third South Korean player in MLB this season, joining former Kiwoom teammates Lee Jung-hoo of the San Francisco Giants and Kim Hye-seong of the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lee had his first four-hit game of the year against the Miami Marlins at Oracle Park, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored to raise his average to .313.
Lee tripled to right to start, then singled in the third, fifth, and seventh innings before flying out in the eighth. He accounted for half of the Giants' hits in their 6-3 win. Kim went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts in the Dodgers' 6-0 victory over the Chicago Cubs at Dodger Stadium, maintaining a .333 average.
