The Colorado Rockies completed a three-game sweep of the Houston Astros at Coors Field on Wednesday, winning 9-1 in the finale to reach .500 for the first time since March 29, 2025. Michael Lorenzen delivered a strong rebound performance, allowing one run over 5 2/3 innings. The victory marked the Rockies' first home sweep of Houston since 2012.
DENVER -- Colorado jumped ahead early when second baseman Edouard Julien led off the first with a single to right, stole second and scored on Tyler Freeman's single to left. The Astros managed their only run in the second, but the Rockies erupted for five in the bottom half on two doubles, two singles, three walks, two steals and two sacrifices. Hunter Goodman stole his first base of the season in that frame and later hit a 378-foot solo home run to left in the fourth. The team added runs in the sixth and eighth for insurance, highlighted by TJ Rumfield's sacrifice fly and key walks. Rockies manager Warren Schaeffer praised the lineup's execution. “That was fundamentally sound, with sac bunts involved, base hit bunts involved, sac flies involved, taking our walks,” Schaeffer said. “We want to pass the baton. We want to execute with runners on third and less than two [outs]. That was very good today.” Lorenzen, rebounding from a rough debut on April 3 where he allowed nine earned runs, emphasized experience. “Having some veteran presence here is a big deal,” he said. “You have to have the ability to understand the information, to know what you did wrong. That comes with experience.” Zach Agnos closed out the game with 3 1/3 scoreless innings, his longest outing ever, crediting Lorenzen's guidance.
