Le guitariste des Rolling Stones a expliqué qu'il avait enregistré ce solo après avoir appris le décès de Wilson alors qu'il travaillait sur le nouvel album du groupe, Foreign Tongues. Cette performance de neuf minutes, réduite par la suite à cinq minutes, figure sur le morceau Back In Your Life et a été réalisée en une seule prise, a précisé Wood. Il a également noté que Sly Stone était décédé à peu près au même moment, ce qui a ajouté au poids émotionnel de la session.
