La roupie a atteint 17 500 Rp pour un dollar américain le mardi 12 mai 2026. Cette pression découle d'une combinaison de facteurs mondiaux et nationaux.

L'économiste Dr Surya Vandiantara a déclaré que l'affaiblissement de la roupie n'est pas propre à l'Indonésie. La plupart des pays asiatiques sont confrontés à une pression similaire en raison du sentiment favorable aux États-Unis dans le cadre de leur conflit avec l'Iran.

Les données de la Bank Indonesia montrent que la roupie a reculé de 3,65 % depuis le début du conflit entre les États-Unis et l'Iran. Ce chiffre est inférieur à la baisse de 6,58 % du peso philippin et à celle de 5,04 % du baht thaïlandais.

La gouverneure adjointe principale de la BI, Destry Damayanti, a déclaré que des facteurs nationaux tels que le remboursement de la dette extérieure, les dividendes et les besoins liés au Hajj ont également accentué la pression. La BI reste déterminée à effectuer des interventions intelligentes sur le marché pour atténuer ces tensions.
