Sam Vanderpump a accédé à la célébrité grâce à l’émission de téléréalité E4 Made in Chelsea. Dans un épisode d’octobre de Made in Chelsea, Vanderpump a partagé son pronostic avec le membre de la distribution Ollie Locke, déclarant : « There is no hope of my liver getting better and he said, ‘I wouldn’t be having this call with you if I thought you could make it through the next four or five years’. The way I look at it is I’m healthy now, hopefully I will remain healthy all the way up until I’ll get a call and go in for surgery and then I wake up and I’ll be healthier. Clemency Green de Channel 4 a commenté : « We hope this documentary sheds some light on the heartbreaking journey people often face as they wait for a donor. It is a privilege that Sam will allow our viewers to follow his own experience with the process, as well as his and Alice’s most special moments. This documentary isn’t just for fans of Made in Chelsea, this is an insight into the joy and hope that can live alongside the painful realities of living life with an end-stage disease. Vanderpump a déclaré à Hello! : « It means quite a lot to me to constantly have another little reminder that my dad was here; it’s about trying to remember your loved ones as much as you can in as many ways as possible. I can already see features of my dad in him. »
