Sam Vanderpump lands new E4 documentary on liver disease battle

Sam Vanderpump, the 28-year-old Made in Chelsea star, has announced a new two-part E4 docuseries following his life with end-stage liver disease. The show, titled Made in Chelsea: Sam Vanderpump’s Story, documents his wait for a liver transplant alongside his wife Alice. It aims to highlight the challenges of UK transplant waiting lists.

Sam Vanderpump rose to prominence on the E4 reality series Made in Chelsea. Born with liver disease that remained dormant until December 2024, he fell seriously ill and now faces end-stage liver failure. In an October episode of Made in Chelsea, Vanderpump shared his prognosis with cast member Ollie Locke, stating, “There is no hope of my liver getting better and he said, ‘I wouldn’t be having this call with you if I thought you could make it through the next four or five years’.” He added that he is undergoing liver transplant assessment and remains optimistic, noting, “The way I look at it is I’m healthy now, hopefully I will remain healthy all the way up until I’ll get a call and go in for surgery and then I wake up and I’ll be healthier.”

The upcoming docuseries will explore Vanderpump's journey with the disease, including his position on the transplant list. Channel 4's Clemency Green commented, “We hope this documentary sheds some light on the heartbreaking journey people often face as they wait for a donor. It is a privilege that Sam will allow our viewers to follow his own experience with the process, as well as his and Alice’s most special moments. This documentary isn’t just for fans of Made in Chelsea, this is an insight into the joy and hope that can live alongside the painful realities of living life with an end-stage disease.”

Vanderpump's personal life has seen recent milestones amid his health struggles. He and Alice became engaged in March 2025, following his hospitalization for liver and kidney failure that led to sepsis. The couple married at Chelsea Registry Office and welcomed their son, Marmaduke Marcus Vanderpump, last month. The name honors Vanderpump's late father, Mark, who died in 2018, and his grandfather. Vanderpump told Hello!, “It means quite a lot to me to constantly have another little reminder that my dad was here; it’s about trying to remember your loved ones as much as you can in as many ways as possible. I can already see features of my dad in him.”
