A school employee in Falu Municipality was detained at the end of April suspected of multiple cases of child rape. The municipality suspended the person the same day but informed parents only after media attention which has drawn criticism.
According to SVT, Head of Compulsory School Gustaf Malmberg confirms that the person was detained at Falu District Court at the end of April. The suspicions concern five cases on four occasions between 2024 and 2026 of which three occurred in Falu Municipality and two abroad. Malmberg states that the crimes took place outside working hours with no connection to the school. The municipality learned of it through indirect channels and contacted the police to confirm this before the suspension. Several parents have criticized the delay in information. An anonymous parent says the school seems more concerned with its reputation than children's safety and has chosen to keep the children home. Malmberg says it was a personnel matter and that information was released when the case became media attention. The suspect denies the crimes according to the defense lawyer. The municipality is now working to support staff.
