Under Secretary of State Allison Hooker will lead an interagency delegation to Seoul in the coming weeks, the State Department said Tuesday. She held talks with First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo at the department in Washington after Park arrived Monday to speed up implementation of summit agreements, including cooperation on nuclear-powered submarines and civilian nuclear fuel rights.
The two sides agreed to hold a kick-off meeting for security sector agreements based on the joint fact sheet from the October 2025 summit. The United States reaffirmed its extended deterrence commitment to South Korea and both countries stressed the importance of freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and global waterways.
Hooker called for continued progress in trade and industrial partnership and fair treatment of US companies. Park briefed her on the summit with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in Andong and reaffirmed Seoul's commitment to stronger ties with Japan and trilateral cooperation with the United States.
