South Korea restarts Gori-2 nuclear reactor after three years

South Korea has restarted the Gori-2 nuclear reactor at the Gori Nuclear Power Plant in Busan after a three-year suspension for safety checks and improvements. Operator Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. received permission to resume operations last November. The reactor began commercial operations in April 1983 as the country's third nuclear power unit.

Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. announced that the Gori-2 reactor at the Gori Nuclear Power Plant in Busan restarted operations on Saturday after safety inspections and facility improvements. The reactor had been suspended since its 40-year operating permission expired in April 2023.

Located 325 kilometers southeast of Seoul, Gori-2 began commercial operations in April 1983 as South Korea's third nuclear reactor. The operator secured permission to restart last November.

The resumption follows completion of required safety checks and upgrades. Officials from Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. confirmed that all necessary inspections and improvements were finalized.
