Sports analytics firm gives South Korea 91 percent chance of World Cup advancement

Opta Analyst said on June 21 that South Korea have a 91.08 percent chance of advancing to the round of 32 with one group match remaining.

At the ongoing FIFA World Cup in Guadalajara, Mexico, South Korea sit second in Group A with three points after a 2-1 win over Czechia and a 1-0 loss to Mexico.

South Korea will close out group play against South Africa at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Estadio Monterrey. A draw or better will secure second place and automatic qualification for the round of 32.

Opta predicted South Korea will likely face Switzerland in the round of 32 and gave them a 35.92 percent chance to win that match. The sides last met at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
