Squally thunderstorms to hit Hong Kong within hours

The Hong Kong Observatory warned Tuesday morning that squally thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of the territory within hours as a thundery shower area moves east from western Guangdong.

A spokesman for the Observatory said at 8.20am Tuesday that showers are expected to be heavier in some areas.

On Monday the city was under the red rainstorm warning for one and a half hours, followed by the amber warning for nearly five hours.

The forecaster said there would be sunny intervals and a few showers on Wednesday, turning fine and very hot in the following days before becoming unsettled again over the weekend.

As of 8.22am, temperatures ranged from 27 degrees Celsius in Tsuen Wan Ho Koon to 30 degrees in Chek Lap Kok, Tsing Yi, Lau Fau Shan and Ta Kwu Ling.
