Among other nominated films were the German documentary 'Riefenstahl', the French-Tunisian 'The Voice of Hind Rajab', and the Ukrainian 'Songs of Slow Burning Earth', a Swedish co-production by director Olha Zhurbas.

During the gala, Norwegian actress Liv Ullmann was honored with the European Film Academy's lifetime achievement award, presented by chair Juliette Binoche. The 87-year-old Ullmann said: 'I am so grateful. I am nervous but I'm not shaking from nervousness, it's just age. This is a very special prize for me.'
