Supernatural horror film 'Salmokji' hits 3 million admissions

The Korean supernatural horror film "Salmokji: Whispering Water" has drawn more than 3 million viewers roughly a month after its release.

The film logged 147,323 admissions over the weekend from Friday to Sunday, bringing its total to 3.02 million, according to the Korean Film Council. This places it just behind the 2003 hit "A Tale of Two Sisters," which holds the record for the most-watched Korean horror film with 3.14 million admissions.

"Salmokji: Whispering Water" premiered on April 8. It follows a film crew led by Soo-in, played by Kim Hye-yoon, who encounter inescapable terror at a reservoir in Yesan County, South Chungcheong Province, long rumored by locals to be a paranormal hotspot.

"The Devil Wears Prada 2" led the weekend box office with 195,514 admissions, followed by "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" with 184,014 admissions. Both films opened in local theaters on April 29.
