Thousands are expected to travel to Uppsala for Walpurgis Night celebrations, prompting extra guards at the central station to prevent track trespassing. Uppsala Central had the most incidents in Sweden last year with 46 cases and 136 delay hours. Fine weather and distribution of 100,000 water bottles are also planned.

Trafikverket is deploying extra guards at Uppsala Central Station ahead of Walpurgis Night on April 30. The reason is the large influx of travelers, with thousands expected to arrive by train to celebrate the eve of May Day.

"It is a central railway with a lot of people in motion that makes it particularly affected," says Anna-Pia Lingemyr, section manager at Trafikverket. Last year, 46 incidents of unauthorized track access were reported at Uppsala C, a 44 percent increase from 2024. This caused 136 delay hours, second only to Lund C with 140 hours.

Uppsala municipality is distributing 100,000 water bottles from its emergency stock to revelers in the warm weather. "Walpurgis Night in Uppsala is a golden opportunity to rotate our stock," says Anders Sundin, head of meal services division.

The weather will be fine, described as a "fine early summer warm day" by meteorologist Nitzan Cohen. Celebrations include raft racing in Fyrisån at 10:00, cap tossing at 15:00, and singing by Orphei Drängar shortly after.
