Uppsala municipality marks Tornedalingarnas Day on 15 July by raising Meänflaku outside the city hall and hosting an open event.
Tornedalingar are one of Sweden's five national minorities. Their language Meänkieli, culture and history are acknowledged across the country on 15 July.
In Uppsala the celebration takes place outside Stadshuset and in Humlegården at the city library courtyard between 2 pm and 4 pm. Visitors can join conversations and community activities, and the library offers fika. In case of rain the event moves to Kafé Kardemumma.
Uppsala municipality works each year to highlight national minorities and their rights through memorial and holiday days.
