Uppsala Tillsammans named new festival for people with disabilities

Following a vote with strong engagement, Uppsala's new festival for people with disabilities has been named Uppsala Tillsammans – en glittrande funkisfest. The event, organized by Uppsala municipality this autumn, aims to create an inclusive meeting place. An open stage will take place as early as Thursday, May 28, at Kulturhuset Grand.

Uppsala municipality has selected the name Uppsala Tillsammans – en glittrande funkisfest for its new festival aimed at people with disabilities, following a vote involving over 80 participants. The festival is scheduled for this autumn and is being developed in collaboration between the culture and leisure department and the health and social care department.

"Culture and the opportunity to express oneself is a right. With Uppsala Tillsammans, we want to create more contexts where that right becomes real and where more people can take space on their own terms," said Gülperi Saritas, program developer.

Inana Selenius, leisure leader at Grand, added: "It is very fun that so many have participated in voting for the name. Uppsala Tillsammans captures what we want to create, a festival where we do this together and where more people can join."

To build momentum, an open stage event is set for Thursday, May 28, at 6 p.m. in the hall at Kulturhuset Grand, where participants can perform music, dance, or poetry. Musicians will be available for accompaniment, and pre-registration is possible. "We want more people to dare to take the stage and feel that this is their arena," said Gülperi Saritas.
