Wyndham Clark captured the U.S. Open title at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club on Long Island despite vocal crowd opposition during the final round. The two-time champion finished ahead of the field after navigating challenging conditions and fan reactions alongside playing partner Scottie Scheffler.
Clark acknowledged the hostility after his victory. “Man, they definitely didn’t want me to win,” he said. He noted the rarity of such open disapproval in a major championship.
Scheffler, who competed for a career Grand Slam on his 30th birthday, described the atmosphere. “The crowd was tough today,” he said. “I mean, New Yorkers, they are tough people.” Scheffler added that Clark handled both the course and the spectators effectively.
Other players reflected on their performances amid the event’s conclusion. Joaquin Niemann discussed a club-throwing incident that drew a penalty, while Sam Burns and others shared thoughts on rebounding during the week. Clark accepted the trophy after saving par on the 18th hole.
