Addis Ababa court sentences five defendants for tax evasion with fake documents

The Sheger City High Court crime bench sentenced five defendants convicted of tax evasion using forged documents to prison terms and fines.

The Sheger City High Court crime bench handed down the verdicts on Sene 2, 2018 in Addis Ababa. The defendants are Tekle Tesfa Mosisa, Tesfaye Bekana Feyisa, Zerihun Bershawo Feraja, Get International Drivers Training Institute and its manager Tesema Abebe Ejersa. Prosecutors charged the group with violating tax administration laws by using forged certificates to conceal collected taxes. Evidence included fake revenue office stamps found during a search of one defendant's home. The court found all defendants guilty after they failed to rebut the prosecution evidence. It imposed prison sentences ranging from two years and six months to eight years and four months, along with fines from 4,000 to 500,000 Birr.
