Bud Cauley secured his maiden PGA Tour victory on Sunday at the RBC Canadian Open, ending a long wait after 283 starts. The 36-year-old defeated the field at TPC Toronto with a final-round 65 to win by two shots.
Cauley finished with a total that earned him the top prize from the $9.8 million purse. He collected $1,764,000 as the winner, while runner-up Matt Fitzpatrick received $1,068,200.
The victory came after a career marked by challenges, including a 2018 car accident that sidelined him for years. Cauley had not competed professionally between September 2020 and January 2024 before regaining his card in 2025.
"Just how hard that was," Cauley said after the win. "Just so many people helped me get here and I’m just really thankful for all the help that I’ve gotten."
He added that his perspective had shifted since getting married and starting a family. "I put my wife through so much during those dark times and it’s just nice to have a little success as kind of a thank you," he said.
