Charli XCX confirmed details of her eighth album in a new British Vogue profile, describing it as a departure from Brat's electronic style. “I think the dance floor is dead, so now we’re making rock music,” she said. The project features her version of analogue sounds, described as silly and funny, while avoiding anything too macho. Lyrics previewed include lines like “I can take you to heaven like it’s 2007/Pop star in my bedroom like it’s 2007” and reflections on art's role in her life: “Nothing’s gonna last forever/And no one’s gonna last forever.” The album centers on her relationship with creating art and what losing that purpose might mean, beyond songs about her husband George Daniel of The 1975. “Getting back to something more internal is really nice, and really sort of quiet,” Charli noted. “For me, it’s fun to flip the form. We know there’s gonna be people who are bothered by it, but that’s fine.” Producers A.G. Cook and Finn Keane, formerly Easyfun, joined the Paris sessions amid Fashion Week's hectic atmosphere. Earlier this year, Charli released a companion album for Emerald Fennell's Wuthering Heights adaptation, featuring John Cale and Sky Ferreira—amid brief controversy over credits that her management clarified. She has also starred in films including Daniel Goldhaber's Faces of Death remake, Gregg Araki's forthcoming I Want Your Sex, and her mockumentary The Moment, which premiered at Sundance. Charli wiped much of her social media, posting a studio photo captioned “I love making things.” She headlines Lollapalooza in Chicago and Outside Lands in San Francisco this summer, plus Reading & Leeds in August.
