Chubut advances in joint audit with Nation on pension debt

Governor Ignacio Torres confirmed the start of a joint audit with the national government to review the pension debt exceeding 50 billion pesos, while the judicial claim before the Supreme Court continues. The measure aims for an agreement to ensure compliance with the law and regularize overdue payments to the provincial pension fund. The announcement came after a meeting with Interior Minister Diego Santilli.

Chubut's governor, Ignacio Torres, announced that the province will begin a joint audit process with the national government regarding the accumulated debt with the Chubut pension fund, which amounts to over 51 billion pesos. This debt, dating back to 2017, relates to contributions the Nation was supposed to transfer to fund the provincial pension system, supported by local workers' and taxpayers' contributions. Torres stressed that the claim directly affects Chubut retirees and seeks compliance with legal commitments.

The announcement followed a meeting with Interior Minister Diego Santilli and was shared on social media. In his post, Torres stated: "I had a very good meeting with the Interior Minister, @diegosantilli, where, aside from the judicial claim initiated for the Nation's debt with our provincial pension fund, over 50 billion...". At the end of December, the provincial government confirmed it would take the case to the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation through the State Attorney's Office.

Chubut's Executive clarified that the audit runs parallel to the judicial claim, without abandoning it. The goal is to gather consolidated information to advance toward a comprehensive solution, combining the judicial process with potential negotiations. This historic conflict highlights tensions between provinces and the national State over pension funding, impacting the sustainability of regional retirement systems.
