Danish police assist at nato meeting in helsingborg

Police in southern Sweden are reinforced with officers from across the country and Denmark ahead of the NATO foreign ministers meeting on May 21 and 22.

The meeting takes place in Helsingborg. A larger permitted demonstration against NATO is already scheduled for Saturday.

Police commander Mattias Sigfridsson says several smaller demonstrations are expected during the week. He also mentions rallies in support of Gaza and Ukraine.

– Overall we feel confident that we will ensure the NATO meeting will be safe and secure, Sigfridsson says.

Police are mobilizing to handle demonstrations and the presence of international press.
