Duran Lantink presents first Jean Paul Gaultier couture collection

Designer Duran Lantink unveiled his debut couture collection for Jean Paul Gaultier with a runway show that blended historical French court references and futuristic elements.

Lantink drew inspiration from Louis IV and Marie Antoinette while incorporating modern techniques. He 3-D scanned the torso of model Leon Dame to create an internally corseted, melted sideways body carapace.

The collection featured displaced corsetry with satin or feather-covered tubes releasing torrents of tulle. Garments appeared in nonsensical order, including a tailored jacket worn as a hood and a cropped top as a halter. Elaborate Versailles brocade covered shapes resembling substantial drain tubes.

Homages to Gaultier’s signature pieces included jean jackets, bombers, argyle sweaters, a mille-feuille coat and dress, and a pink micro-pleated dress. The show took place in extreme heat at the house’s runway venue.
