Eric Omondi released on Sh100,000 bond

Comedian and activist Eric Omondi was released on Monday by Nairobi's Milimani Court after spending the weekend in custody.

Omondi was arrested on Friday, June 5, 2026, shortly after landing at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. He faces charges of obstructing motorists on Kimathi Street on May 18, 2026, by offloading 120 empty plastic jerricans from a lorry. His legal team led by MP Babu Owino called the charges baseless and said the arrest violated constitutional rights. Police at Lang'ata station denied him bail over the weekend. The court released him on a Sh100,000 personal bond. The case returns to court on June 22.
