The Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced Ibrahim Arief alias Ibam to four years in prison over the Chromebook procurement corruption at the Education Ministry. State losses are estimated at Rp5.26 trillion.
The Jakarta Corruption Court handed down the sentence on Tuesday, May 12, 2026. Ibrahim Arief was found guilty of joint corruption in the procurement of Chromebook laptops and Chrome Device Management.
Judges cited state losses from CDM activation worth Rp621.39 billion and mark-ups on 1.16 million Chromebook units totaling Rp4.64 trillion. The unit price was allegedly three times the market rate.
During the trial, prosecutors highlighted the lack of involvement by internal ministry officials in planning the education digitalization program. Former Minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim relied more on outsiders such as Jurist Tan, Fiona Handayani, and Ibrahim Arief.
In addition to prison time, Ibam was fined Rp500 million or 120 days in jail in lieu. Judges noted the acts had a double impact on the education sector during the pandemic.
