Santiago's metropolitan region buzzed with the 2026 Santiago Marathon, drawing a record 33,000 runners. The start was at Palacio de La Moneda, with waves for 42K, 21K, and 10K courses through Providencia, Ñuñoa, and eastern sectors.

In the men's 42K, Cornelius Chepkok finished first in 02:09:48. Chilean Hugo Catrileo, in his 42K debut, led briefly but dropped his bottle at a hydration station, ending third in 02:10:42. "Good to cross the finish line. I had to run here in Santiago," Catrileo told TVN.

Ethiopian Tigst Belew won the women's 42K with a competition record. "I'm very happy, the people helped me a lot while running," she said to TVN. In 21K, Carlos Díaz took third: "I tried to hold the pace, but my rivals were very well prepared," he told TVN.

In 10K, Diego Uribe secured his third straight win in 29:54, and Daniela Moya won the women's in 35:11. María José Calfilaf was the top Chilean woman, earning the Erika Olivera prize.
