IK Oskarshamn loans Wille Johansson from Färjestad amid injuries

IK Oskarshamn has bolstered its squad by loaning 20-year-old forward Wille Johansson from Färjestad BK for the remainder of the season. The move comes as the team deals with key injuries, including a foot fracture for defenseman Axel Björnkvist. Sportchef Arsi Piispanen indicated further adjustments may follow to prepare for the playoffs.

IK Oskarshamn is reinforcing its roster ahead of the season's final stretch in HockeyAllsvenskan. The club announced the loan of forward Wille Johansson, a 20-year-old prospect from Färjestad BK, who will remain with IKO until the end of the campaign. Johansson, son of club legend Mathias Johansson, has appeared in 18 SHL matches for Färjestad this season and recently excelled on loan with Forshaga in Hockeyettan.

Piispanen highlighted Johansson's versatility, noting similarities to his father, who won four SM golds with Färjestad, a world championship, Olympic participation, and brief NHL stints with Calgary and Pittsburgh: "Wille är väldigt lik sin far till spelstilen. Men han kan inte bara spela center, utan kan även vara ytter."

The interest in Johansson dates back some time, and he could debut as early as Wednesday's match against Västerås. This acquisition addresses recent setbacks: defenseman Axel Björnkvist suffered a foot fracture after slipping on ice outside his apartment last Friday following morning warm-up. The 30-match veteran, with four points this season, faces at least six weeks sidelined, potentially missing the regular season's end. "Det är sådant där som inte ska hända. Det är så surt och tråkigt att det händer på det sättet också," Björnkvist told Barometern-OT. Forward Ville Jonsson is out for the season.

Piispanen remains open to additional tweaks before the transfer window closes, focusing on squad depth for the playoffs: "Det kommer nog hända mer. Men det är mer småjusteringar, snarare än NHL-hemvändare." The team's plans also hinge on whether defenseman Victor Johansson returns from his loan at Leksand.
