Handball player Jim Gottfridsson has signed for IFK Ystad after resolving a conflict with Hungarian club Pick Szeged. He had several offers from European clubs but chose to return to his boyhood team.
The 33-year-old centre back has been without a contract since April. He clashed with Pick Szeged earlier this year but reached an agreement three days ago.
Gottfridsson has played 190 matches for Sweden and was part of the 2022 European Championship gold-winning team. He spent twelve seasons with German club SG Flensburg-Handewitt before moving to Hungary in summer 2025.
IFK Ystad chairman Tobias Lellky calls it a unique opportunity. Gottfridsson says he wants to inspire young players and keep winning.
