Kenya to host first Our Ocean Conference in Africa

Kenya will become the first African nation to host the Our Ocean Conference, scheduled for June 16 to 18 in Mombasa and Kilifi counties.

The 11th edition will focus on ocean conservation, climate change impacts and investment in the blue economy. Its theme is “Bahari Yetu, Urithi Wetu, Mustakabali Wetu.” East African Wildlife Society Director General Nancy Ogonje said the event will push stakeholders to make commitments on implementation and policy reforms. She highlighted its role as a key global platform. Principal Secretary Betsy Njagi said the blue economy contributes 2.5 percent of GDP, valued at over Sh178.8 billion annually. She noted that hosting the conference will position Kenya as a hub for international ocean discussions.
