Quênia sediará a primeira conferência Our Ocean na África

O Quênia se tornará a primeira nação africana a sediar a conferência Our Ocean, programada para ocorrer entre 16 e 18 de junho nos condados de Mombaça e Kilifi.

A 11ª edição focará na conservação dos oceanos, nos impactos das mudanças climáticas e no investimento na economia azul. O tema é “Bahari Yetu, Urithi Wetu, Mustakabali Wetu”. A diretora-geral da East African Wildlife Society, Nancy Ogonje, afirmou que o evento pressionará as partes interessadas a assumirem compromissos sobre implementação e reformas políticas, destacando seu papel como uma plataforma global fundamental. A secretária principal, Betsy Njagi, disse que a economia azul contribui com 2,5% do PIB, avaliado em mais de 178,8 bilhões de xelins anualmente. Ela observou que sediar a conferência posicionará o Quênia como um centro para discussões internacionais sobre os oceanos.
