Mercedes Formula 1 driver Kimi Antonelli was involved in a road accident near his home in San Marino on Saturday evening but emerged completely unharmed. The incident, which damaged his vehicle, occurred just before his departure for the Bahrain pre-season test. Antonelli is scheduled to participate as planned.

Andrea Kimi Antonelli, the 19-year-old Italian driver for Mercedes, experienced a single-vehicle road accident in Serravalle, near his home in San Marino, on the evening of Saturday, February 8, 2025. According to a traffic police report, the crash involved an impact with a guardrail, with no other vehicles present. One report from Gazzetta dello Sport, cited by Reuters, described the incident as the car hitting a wall, though it was unclear who was driving.

Mercedes confirmed the details in an official statement: “Last Saturday evening, near his home in San Marino, Kimi was involved in a road accident. The police attended the scene after being called by Kimi. His was the only car involved and, although the vehicle sustained damage, Kimi was completely unharmed.” Antonelli was driving a Mercedes-AMG GT 63 PRO 4MATIC+ “Motorsport Collectors Edition,” a limited-production model with only 200 units made. This supercar, delivered to him ahead of last month's Barcelona test, features hand-painted bodywork in Petronas livery, an aerodynamic setup with reduced lift, an enhanced cooling system, and a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine producing 612 horsepower.

The accident is not expected to affect Antonelli's participation in the upcoming Bahrain Formula 1 pre-season test, scheduled for February 11-13, 2025, at the Bahrain International Circuit. He is set to drive the Mercedes W17 in the afternoon session on the opening day (Wednesday), the morning on Thursday, and the afternoon on Friday. Teammate George Russell will handle the remaining sessions. A second pre-season test will follow at the same venue from February 18-20.

Antonelli, who passed his driving test last year, joins Mercedes as a promising young talent ahead of the 2025 season.
